Tour Overview
Day 1
FLY ADDIS TO JINKA
Pick you up from airport, transfer to hotel freshen up and go to south Omo research center, Visiting the ethnological museum would give us a brief preview of ethnographical information about verity of tribal groups residing in Omo valley, visit the Ari tribe village and market. Overnight Jinka Resort/ NASA resort.
Day 2
JINKA-MURSI-TURMI
This day our expedition stars early morning with an excursion to a Mursi village (approx 66km from Jinka). Meet the Mursi, they are renowned for wearing largest lip plate and ear lob, Then after lunch, we drive to Turmi (120 km ) from Jinka. Monday Turmi Hamer market. This is one of the most colorful markets in the South Omo and is visited by Hamer, Benna, Karo, Tsemai, and Ari tribes. Overnight in Turmi at Buska Lodge. At night, see the traditional night dancing of the Hamer people, known as Evangadi.O/N – Kizo Lodge
Day 3
Drive Turmi –Omorate – KeyAfer (Alduba Market) – Turmi
In the morning you will have an excursion to Omo Rate to visit the Dasenech people who are the southernmost people of the country and are known for their scarifications. Proceed to keyafer or to Alduba market depending on the day The Key Afer ( Thursday)or Alduba(Tuesday) Market is a bustling place where various dwindling tribes of the Omo Region come together to socialize, share what is happening around and sell and buy goods. Ari, Tsemai, Hamar and Benna people can be seen mixing in the colorful marketplace – a great place for people watching. All kinds of goods are sold at the market, including lots of crafts, jewelry and spices. O/N – Kizo Lodge.
In any of the above two afternoons, we might be attending Hamer bull jumping(age rite) depending on when and where happing.
Day 4
DRIVE TURMI – Karo- Konso
An early morning drive will take you to Murille to visit the Karo tribe (62 Km from Turmi). The Karo people are the smallest number tribe from all of the tribes of the Omo Valley, and they are known for their elaborate decorations, particularly during local ceremonies. You also see the whole process of body paintings there and share more cultural activities. Lunch break and drive to Konso The society of the Konso boasts a rich culture and a highly specialized and successful agricultural economy by their indigenous way of terracing the steep slopes for the cultivation of sorghum and different grains. Visit the Konso village and the natural wonder “New York”: huge sand pillars formed through ages by rain and erosion. Konso Kanta Lodge.
Day 5
Drive to Arba Minch
Drive to Arba Minch, depart for a boat trip on Lake Chamo to visit the “crocodile market”, and the local hippos. later we drive to Chencha, to visit the Dorze people, with their unique culture, houses, and traditions. Fly from Arba Minch to Addis. Flight time Depart from Arba Minch 1:45 pm → Arrive Addis 2:50 pm
